Shanxi Provincial Orchestra established in the 50's of the 20th century, is one of the reowned and brilliance professional orchestras in the west China. SPO is affiliated with a choir, a stage art group, an arts R&D office, and an administration office.
In the past 40 years, SPO has created and introduced a large amount of Chinese and foreign symphonic and choral arts works to the broad audience in west China, including "The Spirit of the West", "The Echo of Kuncang", violin concerto "The Recital of the West", "The Ancient Melodies of Chang’an", and "The Nine Recitals of West Soul". All received many national and and provincial music awards. The symphony choral piece "Love in Sanqin" was awarded 11 excellence performance awards in the 3rd Arts Festival of Shanxi Province. SPO has represented Shanxi Province for 4 times in the North West Provinces Music Week, the Chang’an Music Festival, the North West Border Music Festival, the Sound of Mountain Tianshan Music Festival, the Lanzhou Music Festival, and received high acclaims in performances in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Hainan, Zhongqing, Yinchuan.
The Choir was awarded a 2nd class honour in the Beijing Choral Festival in 1986, and 4 prizes in the Beijing International Choral Festival in 1994.
Shanxi Provincial Orchestra has performed overseas several times to introduce Chinese culture, and received high acclaims in concert with artists from Japan, USA, Turkey, Swiztland, Denmark, Thailand, France, Belgium, New Ireland.
SAP has received artisitcs direction from orchestra conductors: Chou MingDe, Zhang KongFan, Zhu ShaoBo, Qi GuoCai, Zhang JinJun, and choral conductors: are Yang JieMing, Feng ChangLu, Yang JianZhong. SAP also performed with many renowned artistis including conductors: Li DeLun, Yan LiangKun, Han ZhongJie, Ma GeShun, Yang HongNian, Zheng XiaoYing, Jiang JinYi, pianists: Yin ChengZong, Liu ShiXian, Shi Shu Cheng, violinists: Yeung BingSu, Yu LiNa, Sheng ZhongGuo, and Turkey conductor 西德梅克 (Chinese translation), American conductors: John Nelson, Dr. Phillip C. Posey and American Chinese Zhu QiYuan.
Shanxi Provincial Orchestra is firmly making an aggressive move with the opportunities arising from the grand western development program, works hard to bloom classical symphony and choral music, and promote the Chinese culture.
陝西省樂團始建於20世紀50年代，是蜚聲西部樂壇的我國最具實力的專業樂團之一。樂團下設交響樂隊、合唱隊、舞台美藝組、藝術創研室、行政辦公室。
四十多年來，陝西省樂團為西部廣大聽眾創作介紹了大量中、外交響樂及合唱藝術作品，創作演出的《西部風情》、《昆倉回聲》、小提琴協奏曲《西部敘曲》、《長安古韻》、《西魂九吟》等交響樂及合唱作品也多次獲得全國及陝西省音樂大獎，其中交響樂合唱《情滿三秦》獲陝西省第三屆藝術節優秀演出等11項大獎。陝西省樂團曾四次代表陝西省參加西北省樂週"長安音樂會"、"塞上音樂會"、"天山之聲音樂會"、"蘭州音樂會"以及赴香港、深圳、海南、重慶、銀川等地進行交流演出，獲得讚譽。
合唱隊在1986年北京合唱節上榮獲二等獎，在1994年北京國際合唱節上榮獲四項獎。
陝西省樂團多次參加對外交流，相繼同日本、美國、土耳其、瑞士、丹麥、泰國、法國、比利時、新愛爾蘭等國家的藝術家合作演出，介紹了中國民族文化，得到了較高讚譽。
歷任交響樂隊指揮：仇明德、張孔凡、朱少伯、齊國才、張進軍。歷任合唱指揮：楊潔明、馮長路、楊建中。先後和陝西省樂團合作過的著名指揮家有：李德倫、嚴良劏、韓中杰、馬革順、楊鴻年、鄭小瑛、姜金一等。鋼琴家：殷承宗、劉詩顯、石淑誠。小提琴家：楊秉蘇、俞麗拿、盛中國等，以及土耳其指揮家：西德梅克，美國指揮家：約翰‧諾斯、菲利蒲，波西博士，美藉華人朱其元等人。
陝西省樂團正以堅實的步伐乘著西部大開發的翅膀開拓進取，讓交響樂及合唱事業這朵嚴肅音樂之花不斷綻放，為繁榮袓國文化、促進精神文明建設作出貢獻。
