合唱團

Celebrating its golden jubilee, The Pro-Musica Society of Hong Kong was founded in August 1970 by Mr. Francis Chung, the first music director. Its members are music lovers from a wide range of occupations and professions. Over the years, the Chorus has sung under the directions of many renowned conductors including Moses Wu, Paul Tsang, Jimmy Chan, Kiang Tsi-Liang, Chu Siu-Wah, Geoffrey Weaver (from the UK), Raymond Fu, Anne Cheng, Daniel Law, Li Chau-Yuan, Tseng Dau-Hsiong (from Taiwan), Richard Tsang, Lee Kin-Chun, Clement Kong, Carmen Koon, Vytautas Miškinis (from Lithuania) and Felix Yeung. Current conductor-in-residence is Lesley Chan.

Between 1977-1991, the Pro-Musica participated and provided supporting soloists in annual opera productions organized by the former Urban Council. These include  "Madam Butterfly", "Tosca", "Cavalleria Rusticana" & "Pagliacci", "Don Pasquale", "La Boheme", "Rigoletto", "Aida", "Maria Stuarda", "Il Trovatore", "Norma", "Turandot", and "Les Contes D'Hoffmann". In 1982, the Chorus was invited to perform with a group of principal singers from the Metropolitan Opera of New York to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the City Hall. In 1991, the Chorus was invited to participate in the performance of "Aida in Hong Kong (World Tour)".

The Pro-Musica often presents choral concerts with the aim of introducing choral works of famous composers to the general public. Among these are:  Chen Tien Hoh "Parting at Ho Lang", Lasso "Missa Quniti Toni", Faure "Requiem", Mozart "Requiem", Jin Xiang "The Book of Songs", Verdi "Four Sacred Pieces", Rossini "Messe Solennelle", Vivaldi "Gloria", Beethoven "Symphony No. 9" in 1996, Richard Tsang "Lux Aeterna", Victor Chan "A Trip to Mountain West Village", excerpts from Handel "Messiah", Rutter "Requiem", Bach Cantata ”Wachet Auf!”, as well as contemporary works of Miškinis (under the composer’s baton) and other Baltic composers. The Pro-musica has a wide range of repertoire. In addition to local and foreign pieces, the Choir has also premiered different types and styles of choral works for Hong Kong composers.

At times, the Pro-Musica collaborates with other local choral / art groups, to broaden its experience in different realms and levels of choral art. These occasions include:  three performances in Vienna per invitation from the Hong Kong Arts Exchange Centre in 1994; supporting chorus in a full length ballet "The Red Detachment of Women" performed by the Central Ballet of China, presented by the Regional Council Festival, in 1994 and again in 1997; charity concerts featuring Beethoven “Symphony No. 9” with the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra in 1996 and 1998; appearance in RTHK Radio 4's production "A Choral Showcase" in 2001, and CD recording of "Ode to Life" CD in 2003; charity fund-raising concerts with the SAR Philharmonic Orchestra featuring Mahler "Symphony No 2" in 2003, "Symphony No 8" in 2006 and also Verdi "Requiem" in 2013; joint performance with the Hong Kong Oratorio Society in 2007 and 2008, presenting Verdi "Requiem", Rossini "Stabat Mater" and Bruckner "Te Deum"; tribute concert featuring the compositions of Richard Tsang “Life’s Love Song, A concert of Vocal and Orchestral Music” in 2012; collaboration with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, in performances "Revisiting in the Dream, Romantic Concertos of He Zhanhao" and "Music About China X Music Without Bounds Concert" in 2016; exchange concerts with choirs in the mainland e.g. the China Radio Philharmonic Chorus in Beijing, the Shanxi Province Orchestra Chorus in Xian, the Art College of Jimei University and the Aixin Choir of Qianpu Hospital in Xiamen, and the Xing Zhi Choir of the Shanghai Normal University respectively in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2015.

The past decades see the Choir’s frequent appearance in performances presented by the LCSD at district level with a view to popularizing this art form to the Hong Kong public.

雅樂社於1970年8月由音樂愛好者籌組成立,至今已51年,創團指揮是鍾華耀先生。合唱團曾邀多位傑出指揮家領導演出,包括吳東、莊表康、陳晃相、江濟梁、朱小華、韋哲夫(英國)、符潤光、鄭慧芊、羅炳良、李超源、曾道雄(台灣)、曾葉發、李建真、江志群、官美如、米斯基尼(立陶宛) 及楊欣諾等。現任駐團指揮是陳家曦。

合唱團於1977年至1991年期間,應前市政局邀請,參演了大型西洋歌劇: 《蝴蝶夫人》、 《紅伶血》、 《鄉村武士》、 《小丑情淚》、 《老柏思春》、 《陋室明娟》、 《弄臣》、 《阿伊達》、 《英宮恨》、 《遊唱武士》、 《諾瑪》、 《杜蘭朵》 及 《荷夫曼的故事》。 1982年,紐約大都會歌劇團精英來港慶祝 大會堂二十週年紀念演出歌劇精選, 及1991年 《阿依達》世界循迴表演團來港獻藝,亦邀請雅樂社協助演出。

除歌劇表演外,雅樂社亦經常舉行合唱音樂會,向香港觀眾介紹名家合唱作品。這些演出曲目中,較大型的組曲包括: 陳田鶴的《河梁話別》、 拉素士的《彌撒曲》、 佛瑞的《安魂曲》、 莫扎特的《安魂曲》、 金湘的《詩經》、 威爾第的《四首聖曲》、 羅西尼的《莊嚴彌撒曲》、 韋華第的《榮耀頌》、 貝多芬的《第九交響曲》、 曾葉發的《永恆之光》、 陳偉光的《遊山西村》、 韓德爾的《彌賽亞》選曲、 路達的《安魂曲》 及巴赫的清唱劇《醒來吧》。 2016年挑戰演出波羅的海地區的當代合唱作品。 雅樂社的選曲廣泛,除了已經面世的中外歌曲,亦為香港作曲家首演不同類型及風格的合唱作品。

雅樂社亦不時與其他合唱團及藝術團體交流合作,以期在各方面的合唱領域及層面上,作不同的嘗試及突破。1994年,合唱團應香港藝術交流中心之邀,與香港青少年國樂團及香港幼苗兒童合唱團同往維也納演出三場。1994年及1997年,應前區域市政局邀請,與中央芭蕾舞團及中央管弦樂團在區局節演出芭蕾舞劇《紅色娘子軍》,現場演譯合唱部份。1996年及1998年,與香港醫學會管弦樂團合作演唱貝多芬的《第九交響曲》。 2001年,香港電台第四台製作十三集的「合唱雅聚」,雅樂社亦為其一的推介合唱團。 2003年香港電台第四台出品了一張非賣品 CD《為生命喝采》,藉以為全港市民及醫護人員打氣,內容也包括了雅樂社的錄音演出。合唱團與香港愛樂團亦多次合作,分別於2003年演出馬勒的《第二交響曲》、2006年演出《第八交響曲》及2013年演出威爾第的《安魂曲》。2007年及2008年亦曾與香港聖樂團合作演出同一套威爾第的《安魂曲》、羅西尼的《聖母悼歌》和布魯克納的《謝恩讚美頌》。2012年參與演出曾葉發《生命的戀曲》聲樂及管弦樂作品音樂會。2016年參與演出香港中樂團的《夢迴~何占豪愛情協奏曲之夜》及《樂旅中國 X 中樂無疆界音樂會》兩場音樂會。合唱團又先後在2004年、2005年,2008年及2015年前往北京、西安、廈門及上海,與著名的中國廣播之友合唱團、陝西省樂團、集美大學藝術學院、廈門前埔醫院愛心合唱團及上海師範大學行知合唱團交流及演出。

多年來,合唱團更經常應康文署之邀請在各區域舉行演唱會,以期在普及合唱藝術方面更多盡一點力。
